Topic: Energy Storage

Dr. Dean S. Hartley III

Energy storage typically calls to mind batteries.  Energy is a concept, defying storage.  However, energy has many forms, some of which permit its storage.  Electrical energy is difficult to store; however, it can be converted to chemical energy, which can be stored (batteries).  Importantly, the chemical energy can be reconverted to electrical energy when it is needed.  Electrical energy can also be converted into positional energy (for example the water stored behind a dam has positional energy) and then recovered as electrical energy.
