Psychopharmacology algorithms are sequences of treatments and alternatives based on various conditions and patient responses. Psychopharmacology algorithms can be expert-based, evidence-based, or some combination of the two. Physicians dislike overly restrictive, "cookbook," algorithms because of the very great variability of patient situations and responses.
