Psychopharmacology is the part of psychiatry involving treating psychiatric disorders with drugs. Psychopharmacology algorithms are sequences of treatments and alternatives based on various conditions and patient responses. Psychopharmacology algorithms can be expert-based, evidence-based, or some combination of the two. Physicians dislike overly restrictive, "cookbook," algorithms because of the very great variability of patient situations and responses.
