Verification is the process of discovering the degree of success in implementing a conceptual model into computer code. Validation is the process of discovering the nature and extent of the correspondence between the computer results and the real world. Generally, data verification and validation are also included in the entire V&V process.
There are two major parts of data V&V: ensuring that the data sources are good and compatible among themselves and ensuring that the data that is input into a model has the same assumptions as those that the model makes concerning its inputs. It isn't clear whether each of these should be separated into a verification part and a validation part or whether one of these is verification and one is validation.
