Modeling, simulation and gaming is a broad umbrella of techniques. Modeling involves the creation of a construct that abstracts the important parts of a system, leaving out the unimportant (for the model's purpose) parts. For example, a plastic model airplane concentrates on the physical dimensions, leaving out the flying part. A flying model airplane concentrates on the flying part and usually approximates the relative dimensions of the particular real plane being modeled. A simulation is a model that includes the progression of time as an important component. A game is a model that involves human decision making within its operation.
